 What are Chiropractic Adjustments?

Dr. Gina Marino practices a technique which utilizes both light touch and gentle structural spinal adjustments to correct vertebral subluxations. This helps to facilitate improved spinal and nervous system function, thereby allowing for a better expression of health.

This gentle and honoring, systematic two-step method releases the soft tissue structures that can twist, pull and bind the spinal bones.  These soft tissue structures include the muscles and "Saran wrap-like" sheath that surrounds the brain and spinal cord called the meninges.  Releasing these soft tissues that bind the spinal bones brings greater ease to the whole spinal system. She can then structurally guide the misaligned spinal bones into proper alignment using minimal force or movement.

The spinal adjustment process is easy and more effective because tight soft tissues will relax and will not repeatedly pull the bones out of alignment. When the body is allowed to correct many of the bony misalignments itself then it starts to learn and remember how to be more self-correcting and self-sufficient.

The focus of our treatment is to:

Establish the capacity of your nervous system to detect and correct areas of tension and impaired function.

Enhance your ability to generate automatic respirations and movements which help your spine and nervous system dissipate tension, increase circulation and energy flow and promote healing.

Monitor improvement in coordinated function of nerves, muscles, vertebra and soft tissues which promote a healthy spine and nervous system.

Assist your body in removing spinal interference to communication between your brain and the cells of your body, increasing your body's ability to properly respond to its experiences, challenges and needs.

Help you develop lifetime strategies for self-awareness and healing.

Allow you to assess the significant improvement in your health and quality of life through a very wide range of indicators.

What is the Objective of Chiropractic Adjustments?

Each Spinal Adjustment is specifically designed for you. This moment-to-moment honoring of what your body needs makes the healing process gentle, empowering and effective for the patient. We use the lightest force possible to create the maximum effect.  This gentle touch is  intended to enable the body's own self-generated mechanisms of movement and respiration to assist in the correction of mechanical tension and interference to the nervous system.

The contact points are made along the spine and are as gentle as the pressure that you could comfortably apply to your closed eyelid. Since the regions the chiropractor is seeking to adjust are not the regions of maximum tension, fixation, inflammation or pain, but instead regions often remote from them likely to generate these conditions, minimal force is required for correction.

We use the principle of leverage when making these lighter force adjustments, using a gentle touch or pressure or tapping motion. As soon as the patient's body responds and starts to work with the adjustment, the doctor steps back and lets the patient's body work with the adjustment.  In this way we are not overpowering the patient's nervous system, but instead allowing it to do most of the work itself.

The body has a striving to utilize energy most efficiently and to self-correct. The body's own self organizational intelligence responds to the specific touch to generate a correction. This encourages and actually teaches the body's self-regulating mechanisms to become self-corrective and more self-reliant for the future.

Effective chiropractic adjustments require an accurate evaluation and prompt care using safe, effective chiropractic techniques.
